The painter George Stubbs, better known for his horse portraits, was commissioned by Sir Joseph Banks to paint the first kangaroo brought to England, a stuffed specimen brought back by Captain Cook. This was engraved for use as an illustration of the Official Account of Cook's First Voyage, of which this is a French edition.
