The dedication cartouche top right now reads 'To the Wor.p.full S.r Henry Calverley of Eriholme in the Countij of Jorke knt this map is Humby D. bÿ M: Pitt'. [An unrecorded variant of Braun & Hogenberg's plan of Cologne]
Braun & Hogenberg.
Colonia Agrippina.

Cologne, Braun & Hogenberg's home city, published in the first atlas of townplans, the Civitates Orbis Terrarum, published in six volumes between 1572 and 1618.
Despite being printed from the same plate and paginated correctly for the Braun & Hogenberg issues, this example has three figures standing in the foreground bottom left, instead of the usual four. The plate was first issued in 1572: perhaps towards the end of the publication the costume was obviously outdated, noticible because it was local, so the publishers decided to update it.
