The interior is filled with animals, including elephants, zebras and lions, and the sea with ships, monsters and a Neptune. Henricus, incensed by this sale to a competitor, engraved this version, which can be identified by having the Indian facing Chesapeake Bay rather than away. Deriving the map from White's 'Virginia' and Le Moyne's 'Florida', Hondius had to reduce the size of Carolina to get the maps to fit together. Such was his influence that his errors were repeated well into the next century. It has been suggested that the waterfall in the lake under the title is Niagara, based on Indian hearsay and much misplaced.
